Sheryl, or Sher as she prefers to be known, is a graphic designer from Michigan City, Indiana who sells her work through Etsy, Zazzle and Cafepress. Let’s find out more about her…
Sheryl, Can you tell us a little about yourself and your work?
I’m a crafts and graphics designer. I’ve been designing computerized graphics since I started working for a printing business in 2001. During that time and for several years leading up to that point I also designed craft projects for various magazines and books.
I’m new to selling at Etsy but not new to selling digital & scrapbooking images. I actually did quite well with an online business until life took a little turn and my focus had to change. But things have never been better than they are now so I’m coming back!
I live with my husband Brian, our yorkie Bubba and our cat Pumpkin. I have two kids who are grown. My son lives here in Indiana and my daughter will be moving to Delaware shortly where she will be attending grad school.
What’s your favorite piece of work, that you have created?
My favorite items hands down are my graphic kits/clipart. Once I get into my drawing program and start manipulating those shapes and colors, I can get lost forever! My favorite kit of all of them has to be The Beverage Cart. I just love the colors and the relaxed theme. I always think of myself sitting in a coffee or tea shop when I see them. I also love the soothing colors I used.
What are you working on at the moment?
Right now I’m working on a health and fitness kit. I have a great idea for some Christmas projects too, it really isn’t that far off!
What are your goals for the future, both work wise and life?
My real dream would be to give up the day job and do this on a full time basis.
I also have a great one year plan. By my 51st birthday (March 2012)
I plan to have a successful business and drop 50 pounds! I also plan to build my Etsy, Zazzle, & Café Press Shops way bigger. (Ginger Beach Keychain from Zazzle Store)
What are you doing when you’re not creating?
Well, I really enjoy traveling, shopping, hiking, and of course spending time with my family and pets…
Do you have any favorite blogs you read?
Oh man! I have long list of favorites. I love the personal ones that add a creative touch. I like to see recipes, craft projects and photography. One blog that I’ve been following for a long time is Snap Edit Scrap She has this adorable little dog named Duke and you can’t help but fall in love with him. There are so many great blogs out there! Some of my favorite craft blogs are Sweet and Savory Trinkets and Inside my Hideaway.
What are 3 of your favorites from other Etsy sellers?
Another tough one! Do you know how many talented people are on Etsy? Ok, I’ll have to narrow it down to 3. But I have to say, there are way too many to mention.

Right. Dragonfly Pendant Necklace by ClaybyKim
Do you have any tips or inspiring words for others?
Just don’t give up. I keep a notepad with me at all times because I tend to find inspiration at the most unusual times. I keep a LOT of notes!
Do you admire any other artists?
My very most favorite artist is Susan Winget. She designs for the Lang Calendars. I buy calendars and other things from there and I always choose her designs.
What is your favorite…
Season? Fall — Color? Green
Movie? Under the Tuscan Sun — Book? Art of Living by the Dalai Lama
Animal? Owls.
We rehabilitate wildlife where I work and we have raised and rehabilitated several owls. I’ve watched them grow from the ugliest little fluffy things with beaks to amazingly beautiful creatures.
Raising the owls has definitely been one of my most treasured experiences.

Thanks for taking part in the interview Sher, it was fascinating to read about the work you do with the owls, and great to see some of the designs you have come up with. Good luck with growing your online stores over the coming months, I’m sure you’ll be a great success on Zazzle
