Can you tell us a little about yourself and your artwork?

My name is C.nick, I am a traditional artist who also does portraits.

As an artist I am very interested in history and literature and so it’s no wonder that those subjects comprise a good deal of my work.

My art process is simple, I love to research and I love to learn new things, so when it come to planning new pieces I simply read as much as I can get my hands on and then with a little help from art theory I start to sketch.

Sometimes the sketch doesn’t come out with the emotion I had intended it to have, but it is my opinion that these are often the best sketches to work with and so I look for different ways to see the subject matter when I’m sketching.

What’s your favorite piece of work that you have created?

Right now I would have to say The Last Step (pictured right).

This watercolor painting was inspired by Hamlet and Ophelia. In my painting I was inspired by the idea of suicide because Ophelia has always been portrayed as a passive character, very submissive to the other characters’ demands and wants.

What are you doing when you’re not creating?

Reading, I love it ’cause it gives me new concepts.
Swordplay, I love it ;cause I think of it as a physical Chess match and I thrive on that.
Archery, I love when you’ve just released the arrow and you know it’s a good shot.
Scottish Dance, I love the precision that it involves.
Irish Dance and Dance in general, I love the freedom of it.

What artwork are you working on at the moment?

I am just finishing up my series Water Ways and am now gearing up to work on more dog agility art and my series Balyn Behaving Badly featuring my Pembroke Welsh Corgi named Balyn, he gives me a lot of real life inspiration.

Where do you sell your artwork?

I sell my work on ImageKind, Fine Art America and Zazzle.

Where else can we find you online?

I have Facebook and a Tumblr Blog, C.nick Sketchbook of Balderdash.

Do you have any tips or inspiring words for others?

These quotes:

The eye, which is called the window of the soul, is the principal means by which the central sense can most completely and abundantly appreciate the infinite works of nature – Leonardo da Vinci

With everything that you do practice on appreciating the amazing (like water being one of the very rare liquids that is less dense in solid form) and relating to the world, this puts your understanding capabilities through the roof.

“A man paints with his brains and not with his hands.” Michelangelo

This quote is true on so many levels, it really is all in the mind and what you decide to do with it.

Just for fun… What is your favorite…

Color? Black/Blue/Green

Animal? Generally: Dogs… Specifically: My dog, Balyn

Season? Fall/Winter — Book? Beowulf
